About that: Una Cosa De Español

Well…people believe the saying is true…

…and I happen to be one of those people. Happy D’Day, yall.

No, not D-Day, nah baby, the day that felt like making love, not war. On this day, 25 years ago, an hauntingly amazing album by the name of Voodoo was released by forever-bae D’Angelo, hence why I call it D’Day.

Yeah, he released two more albums, one before and after, so I guess those days could be considered D’Days too, but those didn’t quite hit the same as Voodoo did. Don’t get me wrong, Voodoo is not my all time fav D’Angelo album (my soul will always crave some Brown Sugar, babe), but Spanish Joint is my all-time favorite D’Angelo song, so this year, on D’Day, I’m celebrating it.

“Whatever will be will forever do” is my mantra. I say it before I’m about to start something new, when I’m sad, mad, happy, anxious, or whenever it rains…and I feel a type of way.

The art is a literal “Spanish Joint,” ya know, with “joint” being in reference to cannabis and the “Spanish” being what’s written in the inside of the joint. “Lo que sea que sera, siempre lo sera” doesn’t quite translate to “whatever will be will forever do” because “whatever will be, will forever do,” seems to be a play on “what will be will be” or “que sera, sera,” so…I had to improvise. My Spanish phrase translates to “whatever will be, will always be.”

Eh, close enough.
